Avoid the Landwind CV9 - poor NCAP rating

The Chinese Landwind family car CV9 is extremely dangerous and only gets two stars
in Euro NCAP crash test.

A fresh collision test from the testing organization Euro NCAP shows a disastrous result for the otherwise improved CV9 model, which is a six seater MPV similar to the European Opel Zafira.

No European car maker has shown such a pathetic performance for many years.
The NCAP video clip clearly shows that the CV9 is very dangerous when facing a frontal impact.
The car is almost falling apart during the collision. The front wheel is pushed far into the cabine and the driver will suffer serious injuries.

A modern MPV should be equipped with both ESC (anti-slip system) and curtain airbags - none of this is available in the Landwind CV9.

Honda FR-V review

Two rows of three seats is the core value of Honda's fantastic family car. Especially the center square in the front row is unique, and it is here that all kids love to sit. This is probably one of the best MPVs of the world - especially if you have 4 children.

To make room for three car seats are made wider and the seats are made slightly narrower than normal. The car measures 1.813 meters in width, and it is good 11 cm wider than many conventional cars.

Honda is known for making cars with a flat bottomed cabin where you do not have a tunnel that is bothering for passengers - this is also the case in FR-V. All six seats offer good room for adults, and FR-V designers have managed to design the car so the rear seats individually folds together so that they slide down and become level with the floor when not in use. Thereby it is possible to design the car, as you like. The Honda FR-V is true master in flexibility - you will have a hard time finding a more all-round MPV.

Equipment level is high and contains almost all types of safety equipment - including the important ESP system (anti skid). The vehicle can also be equipted XEON lightning and automatically sunroof.

2010 Ford C-Max and Grand C-Max

Ford launches the sequel to the popular Ford C-Max with the same name but with a 7-seat addition and new engines.

Our rating: The new Ford C-Max and Grand C-Max with seven seats is appealing. The new strong and flexible engines will attract many buyers.

People Movers as the Ford C-Max is ideal for the family with both children and cargo. It's easy to get in and out - and with the large windows will the kids much better conditions in the backseat. They can look and be entertained by the world flying by - this also prevents the tendency to motion sickness.

The drivers seat is well arranged and well designed, but unfortunately a bit discrupted by chrome accents on the steering wheel. The old Ford C-Max was a traditional 5 seaters MPV, but the new is supplemented with a seven-person model which is longer and has sliding doors as backdoors to facilitate access to the two rearseats. Although the gap is relatively big and there is passage between the two big rear seats, you should still be agile to climb into - or be a flexible child.

The seat height on the 3rd row is more or less not usable for daily use - it should be considered as a
temporary solution when you need the extra space.

The compact version of Ford C-Max measures 438 cm - the 7 seater (Grand C-Max) is 452 cm making it 14 cm longer than the standard version. The standard Ford C-Max trunk is 432 litersand 439 liters in the larger Grand C-Max with five seats in use. When the two extra seats are up, there are only 92 liters back for luggage in the Grand C-Max.

Citroen Berlingo Multispace with 7 good seats

Large Families have many years liked the MPV Citroen Berlingo. In the old version there was only room for five, but some owners opted to have two extra chairs mounted sideways in the luggage compartment. It was neither safe or comfortable!!

Citroën has now introduced a true seven seaters version of the new Berlingo. It has two extra chairs mounted forward-facing in a third row. All the seats can be adjusted or removed as needed and when third row is not in use, the backrest can be folded forward for the benefit of extra luggage space.

It is not possible to hide the extra seats in the floor as seen in e.g. the Ford Galaxy - but in return the chairs are well padded and good quality. They could accomodate teens, while adults will find the space to cramped. The disadvantage of interior design is obviously a very limited luggage space when all seven seats is in use.

Overall score:
83%

We think:
Length and wheelbase is unchanged from the version with five seats. In practice, the interior design works well, and it is easy to get on to the third row.
Overall, the Berlingo Multispace edition is one of the best seven seaters we've seen in a long time - at least for the price tag.

Pros:
  • Great money for value
  • The children will love the space
  • 7 good seats/chairs
  • Design much better than previous models

Cons:
  • French quality (or lack of quality some might say)
  • Lack of space behind the third row
  • Feels like a minibus
  • Not a drivers car
